Wake Forest Men's Golf Wins ACC Championship

Deacons Capture First Title Since 1989

Wake Forest's men's golf team ended a 33-year drought on Wednesday, winning the ACC Championship in a playoff at Panama City Beach, Florida.

The Deacons, who were the No. 4 seed in the tournament, needed a playoff to grab the final spot in the Austin Regional. They then went on to win the regional and advance to the NCAA Championships, where they finished tied for 12th.

Wake Forest's victory in the ACC Championship is the program's first since 1989. The Deacons were led by Alex Fitzpatrick, who won the individual title in a playoff.

Fitzpatrick, a junior from England, birdied the third playoff hole to defeat Duke's Chandler Eaton. It was Fitzpatrick's second individual title of the season, and he was named the ACC Player of the Year.

Wake Forest's other top finishers in the ACC Championship were Michael Brennan (tied for 11th), Mark Power (tied for 19th), and Will Zalatoris (tied for 22nd).

The Deacons will now compete in the NCAA Championships, which will be held from May 28-31 at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
