Mississippi State Fires Head Football Coach Zach Arnett
One Season and Out
Arnett Struggles to Find Success at Mississippi State
Zachary Arnett, born on September 10, 1986, is an American football coach. He is currently an analyst at the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss). Previously, Arnett served as the head coach at Mississippi State University in 2023. He also worked as the defensive coordinator and position coach at Mississippi State from 2020 to 2022.
Arnett's tenure as head coach at Mississippi State was brief and unsuccessful. The team finished with a 5-6 record, and Arnett was fired after a 51-10 loss to Texas A&M. Arnett's firing came as no surprise, as the Bulldogs had struggled throughout the season. They were outscored by an average of 17.3 points per game and never looked competitive against ranked opponents.
Arnett's firing leaves Mississippi State in a difficult position. The Bulldogs are now searching for their fourth head coach in the past five years. They will need to find a coach who can quickly turn around a program that has been in decline for several years.
